I found this in the office I’m working in. Pretty good Aussie way of doing things.

I’m a geek. Don’t tell me there’s something wrong with me, cause you’re wrong. I’m not emo, freak, lad, yuppie or skater/surfer tool. I’m a geek. And geeks are best, for five reasons:
- Geeks are the most true to themselves. Unlike the others listed above, they gain nothing from their identity in public circles. A “lad” acts like he does because he’s trying to impress lowies and other lads. An emo has been either brainwashed or rejected to far to enjoy life as they should. Geeks aren’t cool. Geeks don’t get invited to parties, they get made fun of and treated like they’re unimportant. There’s nothing to be gained by being a geek. You don’t choose to be a geek – you don’t have to buy the shirt or go to the concert, you just are a geek. And that’s why they’re the most true to themselves.
- Geeks own the world now, and they will in the future. Sure, the President of the US isn’t a geek, but the heads of all corporations are, and if not all their advisers are. You’ll never see an emo wearing a Rolex (unless it’s stolen or fake). This kind of leads onto my next point.
- Where would we be without geeks? They literally run our lives. Every morning you wake up thanks to an alarm clock designed by a geek, have a shower designed by a geek thanks to a water supply maintained by geeks, then you dry yourself and get dressed with materials manufactured by geeks. Then, you eat breakfast cultivated, cultured, processed and manufactured by geeks. So you haven’t left the house yet, and you’ve already used a geek’s product five times. Imagine if everyone in history was emo. What a world we would live in.
- Geeks can be anything else. That seems like a weird sentence, but it makes sense, and it’s awesome. I am a geek, but I also love music and sport – I have non-geek friends, and I do other things in my spare time. I’m in groups and I like to think I take part in life more than most people. The thing with being a lad or emo or bruiser is that you can’t stray from that line. You HAVE to be like that douche all the time. Geeks can be anything else, at any time.
- Geeks are the fastest growing group. I’ve been a geek since I was seven and I touched my first computer. But lately, everyone’s going geek. Of course, as I said, the best thing about being a geek is you don’t choose to be a geek. So all these people are becoming the one thing they can honestly be. Isn’t that awesome?
So, next time you’re in a computer store run by geeks, buying an iPod made by geeks so you can listen to music mixed and produced by geeks, and you’re paying with a credit card invented by a geek, thank a geek. They quite literally keep you alive.
